Ideal Candidate Applicants with a sponsor-backed, employer-led, or nominated route

Profile fit depends on sponsor quality, employer continuity, and route-specific labor-market conditions.

Processing Time 3 Months Avg

Average total cycle based on current pack assumptions, not guaranteed service time.

Salary Threshold €50,700/yr

Reduced 2026 threshold: €45,934.20 for eligible shortage, new-entrant, or IT cases.

Long-Term Outcome 5 Year Track

The surrounding country pack tracks a 5-year citizenship horizon.

Blue Card Mobility & Family

Germany does not apply a labour market test for this route. After 12 months in the issuing Member State, Blue Card holders can use intra-EU mobility rules; short visits of up to 90 days in a 180-day period are also tracked here. Family reunification is more favourable than ordinary routes, and spouses have work access.

Blue Card Fee Mechanics

The current Germany pack keeps the €75 national visa baseline, up to €100 for first Blue Card issuance in Germany, renewal at €96 up to 3 months or €93 for longer renewals, and €35 for express issuance where available.

Blue Card Processing Window

European law foresees a maximum processing time of 90 days for issuing the German EU Blue Card, though embassy appointments, recognition work, and post-arrival residence-permit steps can still stretch the end-to-end timeline.
